"memory is a way of holding onto things you love,
the things you are, the things you never want to lose"
everyday we have the choice to spend our lives either aimlessly walking through each day following a routine of class, gym, work, then sleep... OR we can choose to take advantage of the short time we have in our four years in college, with the friends and peers here around us making memories of every moment passing by.
in the past numerous people have asked me what my regrets were or what i would come to regret if certain events occurred in my future life. one thing i think i would always come to regret is letting an opportunity to spend time with my friends, an opportunity to get to know someone better, an opportunity to build upon an existing friendship is passed up. you can never tell when exactly a friendship starts or might even reach an different level at any random moment. i feel as though these opportunities cannot be taken for granted and that true effort, time, and longing needs to exist between two people or a group of friends to form a strong friendship.
some people might think that they dont have enough time to get to know someone.. as we're nearing the end of second semester. other people might think that they wont be accepted by other groups of people. some people might also think that it is just not worth it or they might just sit around waiting for others to say the first "hello" or "can we hang out?"
my only advice is to take every opportunity you have to get to know someone. you can learn so much about a person in a month, in few weeks, or even within a few days. friendships can form overtime or even in a second of time. you would be surprised as to how many people are also willing to give you a chance or even wanting to get to know you. if you always sit around waiting for others to approach you, you will never form the friendships you long for.
do i regret sitting around talking and wasting time with cliff kim, jennifer kang, sarah han, and jonathan lee last night? do i regret our random trip to turning stone and mickey d's till 8 in the morning knowing that i had to attend a class at 9:30 in the morning? memories are "things you never want to lose" and these are the moments in my life i never want to lose and would never give up or exchange. i treasure these moments and pray for many more nights and memories like these throughout my entire life.
i hope to never have regrets of lost opportunities when it comes to our friendship..
HEY, can we hang out?
